Students will travel to the Netherlands during Spring Break 2019 to study the country's approach to handling drug use. Daily activities will include lectures on drug addiction issues and drug policy in the Netherlands, guided tours of the Hague and Amsterdam, visits to drug treatment centers and drug policy-related organizations, and meetings with drug enforcement officials (police, prosecutors). Students will evaluate the approach that the Netherlands takes in labeling and managing illicit drug use and compare their strategy with that of the United States.
During the embedded travel component, housing will consist of accommodation at hotel/hostel.
The process for enrolling in an embedded course varies according to the instructor and/or department. The program leader has indicated that in order to enroll in the course and travel component, students must complete an interest form after attending an informational session about the course and the trip. This form will be used to further contact students about the program and requirements.
