This course will introduce students to cultural representations and artistic expressions of social injustices, encourage them to explore ideas, question answers, and think differently about their personal encounters with art. Beginning with a short-term embedded program in Sydney, Australia, students will be immersed in a learning environment that presents new ways of thinking about culture and social problems experienced in urban environments. Students will be introduced to Sydney's history and culture, colonization, and persisting issues of social justice as expressed in public artworks, community activism, and visits to Sydney's best museums.
The process for enrolling in an embedded course varies according to the instructor and/or department. The program leader has indicated that in order to enroll in the course and travel component, students must submit a program application, which can be found on the course website.
